Get Out (the horror/comedy film) still has moviegoers and critics talking since its February 24th release. The movie which only had a $4.5 million budget sold more than $30 million in tickets the first 3 days at the box office. Salute to Jordan Peele, the mastermind behind the project. For those who don’t know, Peele is an actor, comedian and filmmaker who most people remember from the Comedy Central sketch series Key & Peele. He made his directorial debut with Get Out and has since become the first black writer director to gross more than $100 million with his debut film. I know Jordan Peele has to be on cloud 9 right now! The movie is estimated to reach $154 million or higher as viewers continue to watch the film.
I finally got a chance to see the movie about 2 weeks ago. The pressure to watch the movie is so heavy because of all the hype surrounding the film. You can’t get on social media without seeing “get out” challenges and memes, let alone the endless reviews and constant talk from literally everyone who has watched the movie. I knew I had to see it when Rotten Tomatoes gave the project 100% positive reviews! And of course the racial overtone mixed with the comedy and horror was extra icing on the cake. There were so many hidden messages or “easter eggs” in the film that seeing the movie a second time is almost necessary. I think that’s another reason for the film’s continued success; the number of people who saw the movie multiple times.
What did you guys think of the movie?
