I get excited every time I hear anything about Don Cheadle starring in a film. He and Denzel Washington are two of my favorite “classic” male actors. When I read an article about Cheadle starring and producing in an upcoming film about Jeremiah Hamilton, Wall Street’s first black millionaire, I immediately became intrigued! I wasn’t familiar with Hamilton’s story until now.
Jeremiah Hamilton was a broker and land agent during the 19th century in New York. Surprisingly he owned stock in rail companies which was ironic because he wasn’t allowed to legally ride the railway during that time. Hamilton invested in land and property, purchased mansions and even married and had kids with a white woman. At the time of his death he was labeled the richest black man in America.
The film will be an adaption of author Shane White’s biography “Prince of Darkness: The Untold Story of Jeremiah G. Hamilton, Wall Street’s First Black Millionaire.
