In celebration of Juneteeth, Soul Food Sessions is gearing up for a four city tour that will kick off here in the Queen City! In partnership with Coca-Cola Consolidated, Soul Food Sessions will have the opportunity to showcase their mission to increase diversity in the culinary industry on the road. If you’ve never heard of Soul Food Sessions, let me give you a brief breakdown. Soul Food Sessions – Inc. is a movement to acknowledge and support people of color in the culinary arts, restaurant and hospitality industries, and beverage services. The aim is to create innovative dining experiences with menus that reflect diverse specialties.
Charlotte is actually the home market for Soul Food Sessions so it was only right for the city to be the first stop of the tour. If you’re looking for an exciting and flavorful summer shindig pull on up and have a seat at the table. The event will be held at Free Range Brewing on June 19th. The signature dish for the event is seared scallops with purple carrot chutney paired with a refreshing Coca-Cola Zero Sugar.
I’m far from a chef but I got a chance to recreate the recipe which was not difficult to make at all and it was delicious! And listen people…….. this is coming from someone with limited cooking skills! lol The mastermind behind the recipe is Chef Greg Williams, one of the founders of Soul Food Sessions and the co-owner of What the Fries CLT.

Pan Seared Scallops Recipe Paired with Coca Cola
Pan Seared Scallops with Purple Carrot Chutney Paired with Coca Cola. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar brings to the forefront the richness of scallops combined with the boastful flavors of ginger and garlic in chutney.
INGREDIENTS
PURPLE CARROT CHUTNEY
- 2 purple carrots finely grated
- 1 red onion thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 cup grated ginger
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 3/4 cups balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
SEARED SCALLOPS
- 6 U10 scallops
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
POTATO LEEK SOUP
- 2 cups potato leek soup
GARNISH
- chives
- balsamic vinaigrette
BEVERAGE PAIRING
- Coca-Cola Zero Sugar
