It looks like the prayers of Bad Boys fans have been answered! Sonny has officially announced the release dates for the sequels Bad Boys III and IV. Bad Boys III is set to hit theaters in February of 2017 and Bad Boys IV in July of 2019. As of now the original director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have not been confirmed to work on the two films.
Martin Lawrence has signed on to reprise his role as detective Marcus Burnett but Will Smith hasn’t confirmed whether or not he will be returning as the charming Mike Lowrey which will definitely be a disappointment to female fans. Earlier last year Martin Lawrence called out Smith on Facebook to do a follow up to Bad Boys II. He captioned a picture from the movie with the following statement, “11 years ago today, Bad Boys II was released in theaters. Feelin’ it’s about time for number 3… what do you think Will Smith?”.
Some fans are skeptical about the sequels and believe that producers may have waited too late for the follow up films as Smith is now in his late 40s and Lawrence is now 50.
I am very excited about the two sequels as I was a huge fan of both Bad Boys I and II. What do you guys think about the forthcoming sequels?!
I know we’re really late with this review but we finally got around to seeing The Perfect Guy last weekend. The movie definitely didn’t live up to the hype portrayed in the film’s trailers. We set our expectations too high and were highly disappointed.
When the movie trailer for “The Perfect Guy” dropped four months ago we like most other women were raging with anticipation to see the forthcoming thriller which would star two of Hollywood’s most handsome black, leading men and the beautiful Sanaa Lathan. Blinded by the sexiness of Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut most of us overlooked the predictability in the trailer which showed the typical fatal attraction scenario.
Usually the first ten minutes of a film sets the tone of whether you will love or hate a movie so 10 minutes into watching The Perfect Guy we became a little worried that the film might fall into our dislike category.
The elevator background music along with the cringe worthy, corny dialogue made us feel as though we were watching a Lifetime movie. In one particular scene Lathan’s character (Leah) was being harassed at a bar by a guy who approached her with the line, “give me 3 good reasons why I shouldn’t buyyou a drink.” Who says that? Definitely not a realistic or charming pick up line!
The main focus of the movie was on Ealy’s character(Carter), who is supposedly the ideal perfect man. Although very attractive, Ealy’s character didn’t deliver much charisma. We actually found his character to be boring, a little creepy and robotic. We also felt that there wasn’t authentic chemistry between Leah and Carter to make them fall so hard for each other the way that they did. The rushed romance wasn’t believable. Although not very personable, Ealy’s character did however have the role of deranged stalker down packed with his piercing eyes, and emotionless murders.
We felt the way the police handled Leah’s initial stalker complaint was also unrealistic (or it could be us not being familiar with police protocols); the cops basically told her they couldn’t help her unless she was in the act of being killed!
Though most of the film was predictable the death of Leah’s boyfriend Dave definitely caught us off guard. We were hoping that Leah would at least be left with some type of happiness. After all her neighbor was murdered and a sex video of her was emailed to hundreds of people associated with the company she worked for causing her to get suspended from her job.
The best part of the movie was the eye candy, other than that The Perfect Guy was definitely not the perfect movie.
Your favorite sisters Bird, Teri, and Max are reuniting on the big screen after almost 20 years. Fox 2000 production company is working on a sequel to the 1997 classic film “Soul Food.” The original cast members are said to be returning as well as the original director, George Tillman Jr. and producers Babyface Edmonds and Tracey Edmonds.
The new film titled “More Soul Food” will focus on the millennial generation of the Joseph Family. With younger generations being consumed with social media, the movie will highlight how the effects of technology have weakened family relationships and traditions in the once very close knit family.
It’s hard to top a classic film but hopefully this movie will be just as good or even better than the first. I’m excited to see how the movie will unfold!
It has been over a year since the shooting death of Michael Brown by police office Darren Wilson and as of today there still haven’t been any charges brought against him. Many people have become desensitized to this repetitive cycle by our judicial system and have accepted the fact that nothing can be done about it.
Director Jason Pollock refuses to let the voice of Michael Brown grow silent. Last week he announced that he would be directing a film about Brown’s case which will help clear up misunderstandings surrounding the case and that will reveal the truth about his death.
Pollock had the following to say about the upcoming film:
“My new film is going to take a deep dive into how an unarmed boy in sandals and shorts with his hands up, according to killer himself, could be executed in the street without any repercussions. This event has haunted me, as I know it has haunted many others. I needed to find out the truth! So I set out on a yearlong investigation of the facts, and what I have found needs to be seen and heard by the world.”
The film is said to reveal how key evidence was withheld and leaked, will expose corrupt witnesses and will highlight the racist history of the city of Ferguson. Pollock has set up an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign to help raise money for the film and has also created a trailer to help support the film.
The Whitney Houston biopic “Whitney” is set to premiere this Saturday on Lifetime. After the failed attempt of the Aaliyah biopic, fans and viewers are skeptical about how this movie will be able to accurately portray the late singer’s life. Just like with the Aaliyah movie the family members of the late singer were not supportive of the making of the film. The family is reportedly very disappointed that Basset never reached out to the family regarding the film.
Pat Houston, president of the Whitney Houston Estate, released the following statement regarding the film:
Since no one from the immediate family was contacted, nor have seen the film, we cannot help but question the veracity of a story about Whitney and Bobby’s personal relationship. Her life story – even a portion – should be dominated by people who value the merit of her life, not by a group that chose to present the weakest cycle of her life. Unfortunately, there’s nothing inspiring, liberating or uplifting about this project.”
Last summer when it was announced that the film was being produced, Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobby Kristina took to her twitter page to vent her anger and disapproval over the fact that she wasn’t cast to play her mother. The movie is being directed by actress Angela Basset who will be making her directorial debut. Basset was a casual friend of Houston and also starred in the movie “Waiting To Exhale” with her in the 90’s. Former “America’s Top Model” contestant Yaya DaCosta who also starred in “The Butler” will be portraying the late singer and actor Arlen Escarpeta will be portraying Whitney’s ex-husband Bobby Brown.
The movie will chronicle the singer’s rise to fame between the years of 1989 through 1994 and will also focus on Whitney’s relationship with Bobby Brown. Basset was pleased with the script for the biopic but was disappointed that Whitney’s spirituality was omitted because she says it was a key component of who she was as a person.
She released the following statement regarding her role as director for the film and honoring Whitney’s legacy:
“The role of director is a tremendous responsibility. I put my faith in the actors and serve them. In this movie, you’ll see the ‘home Whitney,’ the ‘glam Whitney.’ I fight every day to get it as right as we can. You want to honor their humanity. Whitney Houston was on the highest pedestal and she fell the furthest. She was an incredible artist and human being.”
The biopic “Whitney” will premiere on Lifetime this Saturday, January 17th at 8pm ET/PT. Check out the latest trailer here. Sources: ABC News; The Source This article was also featured on entnews.tv.
The highly anticipated series Empire premiered last night on Fox. The show introduces us to Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard), the head of Empire Entertainment. Lucious is aware that his business is not as profitable as it once was due to the changes in the music industry over the years. As he looks for other financial opportunities to keep his empire secure, he discovers that he has ALS and has an estimated 3 years or less to live. This is where the plot thickens. Lucious has to appoint someone to take over the business so he turns to his three sons to see which one can step up and fill his shoes. The brothers are as different as night and day. Hakeem and Jamal are both music artists and the oldest brother Andre chose to avoid the celebrity lifestyle altogether. Hakeem is young and reckless but Lucious makes it a priority to manage his youngest son’s career in an attempt to turn him into a mega star that will bring more money to his empire. Jamal is a very talented artist as well but because of his homosexual lifestyle, his dad looks upon him as the “black sheep” of the family. The oldest son is seemingly well rounded and responsible; however his lack of affiliation to the entertainment industry causes his dad to question his leadership.
Taraji P. Henson’s character Cookie ignites the show. The first episode shows her being released from jail after serving 17 years for selling drugs. When she gets out, she finds out a lot has changed with the empire she helped to establish, her 3 sons, and the man she once loved. She is back to remind Lucious that she sacrificed years of her life to help build the business and she wants her piece of the pie. The competition to take over the throne is in full throttle! Will the love of money and power cause a split in the family? We shall see.
It was also great to see Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard unite on the screen again. Ironically Terrence Howard’s character looked like he stepped out of a scene from Hustle and Flow. Henson and Howard co-starred in the 2005 film.
